A 2020 Update

Green Goose Renos has new wheels!

Well, it’s been a year, hasn’t it? I know, I know, it’s not over yet. But as we move into the Christmas season, I figured it was about time I shared a little update from the Green Goose gaggle. (Yes, that is the proper name for a group of geese.)

We’re grateful to have stayed busy and safe throughout the pandemic. Back in March, when COVID-19 first hit, we were lucky to be working in an empty house. This gave us some breathing space (literally) while we figured out how to keep serving customers in a responsible way.

Like many people, we had a bit of a wild ride over summer as childcare went out the window. Now, we’re back into more of a routine. We’re incredibly grateful to Ms. Mackenzie and Ms. Donna at Kimberley Independent School. They are amazing at looking after our littlest Green Goose, giving us time to focus on the renovations business.

Of course, we’re still prioritizing health and making sure we’re staying home if we have any cold symptoms. We have some smart-looking face masks which match our black uniforms. And we’re figuring out which is the best hand sanitizer and which smells like pure vodka.

This year’s work

This year, we’ve stayed busy doing a garage addition, deck, and shed renovations in Forest Crowne, kitchen and bathroom renovations in downtown Kimberley, a bathroom and a main floor renovation in Blarchmont, and our very own workshop and kitchen renovations out here in Meadowbrook.

Our fantastic customers have gifted us homemade plum jam, James’s favourite sour beer, a Halloween candy bag, more beer, and even a cookbook written by the customer herself (with an excellent pork chop recipe). We have the best customers.

We haven’t been great at keeping up with this blog or our Facebook page, so I am sorry we’ve been quiet online. That’s taken a hit while we’ve focused on getting the work done and staying sane during a pandemic.

And I think that’s okay. I’m pretty proud that we’ve kept customers happy while juggling some new challenges—like materials taking longer to come in than usual after lumber mills closed in the spring and then worked through the backlog.

Looking forward

Looking forward, we’re already planning for next summer! We’re fully-booked until June 2021, so we’re now thinking about the fun decks we can build and renovate then. James has declared 2021 to be The Year of the Deck!

So if you want a new deck built and you live in the East Kootenays, now’s the time to give James a call to talk it over.

The most common mistake people make when thinking about getting a new deck is leaving it too late to talk to a carpenter. We usually get booked-up for renovations about six months in advance, and right now it’s even further.

Our track record tells me that pretty soon, we’ll be fully-booked for summer 2021. So, if you want to get your deck locked into our schedule, please don’t wait to call! You can reach James at 250-908-7068 or by clicking here to email him.

Meanwhile, we’re ready for winter. We have the snow tires on the truck. We have new, super-warm Green Goose Reno’s hoodies. And we just ordered some Christmas cards for our customers, designed by the talented Anna Robins.

So enjoy the snowfall. (We are!) Have a wonderful holiday season. And—even if it’s a little early—here’s to The Year of the Deck!
